Maynard, Cooper & Gale Welcomes Thomas J. Butler

Maynard, Cooper & Gale, P.C. is pleased to announce that Thomas J. Butler has joined the firm as a shareholder. Butler is a member of the Class Action Litigation, Complex Litigation, Insurance and Financial Services Litigation and Product Liability practice groups.

Butler has a wide-range of litigation experience that has led him to handle cases in state and federal courts in over 15 states across the country, as well as in the Fourth, Fifth and Eleventh Circuit Courts of Appeal. He has represented some of the largest life insurance and retirement companies in the Untied States in claims, interpleaders, sales practices, rescission, bad faith and punitive damages matters. He has significant experience in all aspects of defending consumer class actions, including serving as a co-lead counsel in various nationwide settlements. Butler is recognized in Alabama Super Lawyers for his work in class action litigation. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor of Trial Advocacy at the University of Alabama School of Law.

Butler received his undergraduate degree from Birmingham-Southern College. He then graduated magna cum laude from the University of Alabama School of Law where he was the Special Works Editor for the Alabama Law Review and later admitted to the Order of the Coif. Following law school Butler was a clerk for the Honorable Edwin Nelson with the United States District Court for the Northern District of Alabama.
