Maynard, Cooper & Gale, P.C. is pleased to announce that Thomas J. Butler has joined the firm as a shareholder. Butler is a member of the Class Action Litigation, Complex Litigation, Insurance and Financial Services Litigation and Product Liability practice groups.

Butler has a wide-range of litigation experience that has led him to handle cases in state and federal courts in over 15 states across the country, as well as in the Fourth, Fifth and Eleventh Circuit Courts of Appeal. He has represented some of the largest life insurance and retirement companies in the Untied States in claims, interpleaders, sales practices, rescission, bad faith and punitive damages matters. He has significant experience in all aspects of defending consumer class actions, including serving as a co-lead counsel in various nationwide settlements. Butler is recognized in Alabama Super Lawyers for his work in class action litigation. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor of Trial Advocacy at the University of Alabama School of Law. As Chair of the committee, Smith advises the NABL board of directors on developments in federal securities laws, in addition to developments in disclosure practices relating to municipal securities. On behalf of NABL, he also prepares comment letters, informative memoranda, and other written materials relevant to these developments.

Maynard, Cooper & Gale, P.C. shareholder Jarred O. Taylor II recently concluded an Environmental and Energy conference in New York City which he planned as the Chair of the Environmental Practice Group of Lex Mundi, the world’s largest association of independent law firms. The conference, entitled “Future Energy Choices in a World of Climate Change and Environmental Disasters,” was held at Columbia Law School’s Center for Climate Change Law. Mr. Taylor spoke on the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill and its effects on energy policy in the United States and around the world. Other topics at the conference included the Fukushima nuclear disaster in Japan, as well as multiple topics on climate change and energy policy. Conference attendees came from all around the world, including participants from the United States, China, Germany, Hungary, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Poland, Canada, Columbia, Chile and Mexico.
